Frequently asked questions about PixelUnion

Common questions about PixelUnion, our company, and how to get support.

What is PixelUnion?

We are a privacy-first photo storage platform tailored for European consumers, offering a secure and private alternative to major tech platforms.

In light of recent geopolitical developments between the United States and Europe, the need for robust European solutions has become evident. We were created to address this gap, providing a reliable and privacy-focused option for photo storage within the EU.

Where are you based?

We are based in Alkmaar, The Netherlands, and comply with Dutch and EU data protection laws.

Who runs PixelUnion?

PixelUnion is led by a team with extensive experience in the hosting sector, IT, and storage solutions. We are a company based in the Netherlands. For more information, visit the About PixelUnion page.

Are you GDPR-compliant?

Yes, we fully comply with GDPR regulations to protect your personal data.

How can I contact support?

You can reach out to our support team via the Contact Us page.

How quickly will I get a response from support?

We aim to respond to all support tickets within 24 hours. Our team monitors requests throughout the day to ensure you get timely assistance. If your issue is urgent, please mention it in your message so we can prioritize your request.

What should I realistically expect when switching from Google Photos?

The biggest difference is ecosystem integration. Google and Apple services are tightly connected. Storage, email, documents, and photos all share the same quota and integrate seamlessly. That kind of cross-service convenience is something you’ll generally give up when switching to a dedicated photo storage provider.

In terms of features, the Immich community (the open-source project PixelUnion is built on) has done an impressive job. Areas we’re still improving: multilingual search for non-English speakers, and some quality-of-life features like globally sorting albums.

What makes PixelUnion structurally different from other “European” services?

PixelUnion is built on Immich, an open-source project, which means our technology is transparent and auditable. More importantly: your data is used for storage only not to train AI models, not to power advertising, and not to profile you. That’s not just a policy; it’s how our product is designed.
