Immich v3.2.0

The open-source team behind Immich has shipped v3.2.0. This release puts most of its attention on the web interface, with a redesigned search window, a new place to revisit your memories, and better tools for tags and shared photos. Here is what stands out for you as a PixelUnion user.

What is new in the interface

A redesigned search window

Search is one of the most used parts of Immich, and it now has a cleaner design. The Immich team worked with a new designer to rebuild the search window, which had grown complex over time. It keeps every filter you already know: camera make and model, lens, location, date range, favorites, archive status, and Album membership. The layout is simpler and easier to scan. You can still combine a context term like “swimming” with a person and a place to narrow results quickly.

This also lays the groundwork for a new search engine behind the scenes. Immich rebuilt its search API to support searching inside a single Album and combining filters with both “and” and “or” logic. Those options will reach the interface in later releases.

A dedicated memories page

Immich now has its own page for memories. You can look back through past memories whenever you want, not only on the day they appear. Mark a memory as a favorite and it stays on this page and is never removed. The page is available in both the web app and the mobile app.

Rename tags without starting over

On the web, you can now rename an existing tag from the edit tag window. Before this change, renaming a tag meant creating a new one and moving photos across. Your tag structure can now grow with you.

See your photos on the map as you pan

The map view has a new control that shows every photo in the area you are currently looking at. Open it and a timeline appears next to the map. As you pan and zoom, the timeline updates to match what is on screen. It is a quick way to explore where you have been without leaving the map.

Sharing and people

Recognize the same people across shared photos

This is the first step toward better sharing. You can now create a cluster group with people on your PixelUnion instance that you trust. When someone in the group shares photos with you, Immich can recognize the people you have already named in those photos.

You will find this in your sharing settings, under cluster group. You can invite trusted users to your group or join a group you have been invited to. Working from a larger pool of faces can also improve recognition accuracy.

One thing to know before you start: turning this on requires resetting facial recognition for everyone in the group, so the change applies to photos you already have. Names and birth dates that were set by machine learning are lost and need to be added again. Only faces detected automatically are affected. Each person in the group, including non-admins, has a button in the sharing settings to run this reset.

Automation

Workflows can now react to tags

If you use workflows to automate your Library, there is a new trigger for when a photo is tagged. A matching filter lets you act on specific tags, with options for all, any, or none in a list. A new action can add several tags to a photo at once. Together these let you build tag-based rules, for example adding a set of tags whenever a certain tag is applied.

Smaller improvements

• The Album picker shows how many items you have selected in its title.
• You can search Album descriptions in the Add to Album window.
• Actions such as moving or deleting photos have clearer undo handling.
• The mobile app can show who owns a photo in the asset details.
• The mobile app respects your system 24 hour clock setting.
• Home screen widgets can match your light or dark icon theme.

Rolling out to your PixelUnion account
