Immich v2.4.0

The Immich team has done it again! Just weeks after the previous release, they’ve delivered version v2.4.0 — an update that may focus on polish and quality-of-life improvements, but packs several highly anticipated features that make managing your self-hosted photo library more intuitive than ever.
This release brings power-user capabilities like the new Command Palette, addresses a long-standing request for ownership visibility in shared albums, and significantly refines the mobile experience with smarter button placement. Let’s explore what’s new.
Feature Deep Dive: What’s New in v2.4.0
Command Palette: Power at Your Fingertips
Power users, rejoice! Immich now features a fully integrated command palette, accessible with Ctrl + K on Windows/Linux or Cmd + K on macOS. This keyboard-driven interface lets you navigate between administration pages instantly by typing the name of the page you want to visit.
This first iteration focuses on administration workflows, but the foundation is set for expansion. Many common actions are already supported, complete with keyboard shortcuts. If you’re the type who prefers keeping your hands on the keyboard, this is a game-changer for server management.
Shared Album Ownership Labels: Know Who Uploaded What
Collaborative albums are wonderful for gathering memories from friends and family, but they can become confusing when multiple people contribute. The new ownership labels feature solves this elegantly: in shared albums on the web, you can now toggle an option to display each asset’s owner name directly on the thumbnail.
This small but powerful addition makes it immediately clear who contributed which photo, bringing transparency and context to your shared memories. No more guessing who took that amazing group shot at the family reunion!
Smarter Search Type Switching
Searching through thousands of photos requires flexibility, and v2.4.0 delivers. You can now click directly on the search type pill in the search bar to switch between search modes — no need to open the full filter panel. Whether you’re switching between smart search, text search, or other options, it’s now just one click away.
This streamlined interaction saves time and reduces friction, especially when you’re rapidly iterating through different search strategies to find that one specific photo.
Mobile Experience: Actions Where You Need Them
The mobile asset viewer has received a thoughtful UX overhaul. Previously, accessing certain actions required swiping up to the detail panel and then scrolling all the way right — not exactly discoverable. In v2.4.0, action buttons have been reorganized:
- Actions previously hidden in the detail panel are now accessible via the kebab menu (the three vertical dots)
- Some buttons from the top bar have been consolidated here as well
- The result is a cleaner viewing experience with all actions just one tap away
This reorganization not only improves discoverability but also clears up valuable screen space for what matters most: enjoying your photos.
Under the Hood: Stability and Performance
Beyond the visible features, this release includes an important fix for metadata extraction that could fail under high concurrency. For users with large libraries being processed in parallel, this means more reliable background job execution and fewer stuck tasks.
The new Queue Detail Page also gives administrators better visibility into background processing, making it easier to monitor and manage the various jobs running on your Immich server.
Additional Improvements
The community has been busy! Notable additions include:
- Create new album from the “Add to” modal on mobile — no need to exit your current flow
- Improved metadata panel UI with better readability and exposure info
- Album sorting and layout persistence on mobile — your preferences stick around
- Localized backup upload details for better international support
- Various bug fixes for timezone display, video playback, and more
