Immich v1.135

We’re thrilled to announce that the PixelUnion Immich instances have been upgraded to version v1.135.0, a significant update that introduces a host of exciting new features, powerful enhancements, and crucial bug fixes across all platforms. This release arrives after a busy period, incorporating approximately 200 merged Pull Requests, marking another major step forward in providing you with a seamless and efficient media management solution. Furthermore, subsequent patch releases, including v1.135.1, v1.135.2, and v1.135.3, have further refined the experience with additional fixes for even greater stability.

Let’s dive into the highlights of this comprehensive update that will enhance your photo and video management experience:

Key Features and Enhancements in v1.135.0

  • iOS Home Screen Widgets: Immich now supports home screen widgets on iOS!. You can add widgets to your home screen that display a random image from your library, a random image from an album, or images from your memory lane. These widgets support all sizes (S, M, L, and XL on iPad) and update approximately every 20 minutes by pulling directly from your Immich server. Album filtering specifically requires your server to be on v1.135.0 for full functionality. We anticipate Android support will be coming in the near future, so keep an eye out!.
  • Granular API Key Access Control: For those who integrate Immich with third-party applications or libraries, you can now create API keys with granular access controls. This allows you to select specific permissions, giving you much better control over what external applications can do with your Immich instance.
  • Google Cast Support on Mobile: Immich now supports casting photos and videos directly from the mobile app to Google Cast-enabled devices. This builds upon the existing web casting feature and does not require third-party resources from Google. Do note that only assets that are uploaded to the server may be cast.
  • Opt-in Google Cast on the Web: To address user privacy concerns, Google Cast on the web is now opt-in. Previously, Immich would fetch a third-party script from Google to check cast support, which caused a network request each time Immich was loaded. This change prevents that unless explicitly enabled. If you’ve used Google Cast on the web previously and wish to continue, you must enable it via Account Settings > Features > Settings > Cast.
  • New User Onboarding Flow: To improve the experience for new users, Immich now greets them with an onboarding flow on the web upon their first login. This guides new users through selecting their language, theme, and personal privacy settings, including the Google Cast opt-in. Existing users will not encounter this flow.
  • Album Description on Mobile: The mobile app now displays and allows you to edit album descriptions. The album header has also received stylistic improvements for better presentation.
  • Enhanced Locked Folder Functionality: Building on the previously introduced locked folder, you can now drag-and-drop assets directly into the locked folder on the web, making it even easier to secure sensitive media.
  • Improved Search and Facial Recognition: Immich’s backend now supports VectorChord 0.4.2. While this is a technical upgrade, for you, the user, this means VectorChord is faster, more stable, uses less RAM, and offers higher-quality results for search and facial recognition. This translates to an even better experience when finding specific photos or identifying people in your library.
  • Keyboard Navigation in Timeline: Navigating your timeline is now even easier with new keyboard shortcuts:
    • Use d or Shift + d to jump to an earlier or later day.
    • Use m or Shift + m to jump to an earlier or later month.
    • Use y or Shift + y to jump to an earlier or later year.
    • Use g to go directly to a specific date.
  • Multiple Admin Support: Immich now allows you to grant administrative permissions to other users within your instance. This can be done by navigating to Administration > Users > View Users > Edit User and toggling the Admin option.

Additional Enhancements & Bug Fixes (Across v1.135.x)

This release also includes numerous other improvements and crucial bug fixes for enhanced stability and usability:

  • Timeline and UI Fixes: Issues where the web timeline did not show on some older browsers have been resolved, and time zone problems affecting the web timeline have been fixed. You’ll also find a better contrast for the checkmark indicator and fixes for navigation buttons disappearing in detail view if opened from an album.
  • Mobile App Improvements: A notable fix addresses the double swiping issue on iOS when using the gallery viewer. Issues where the local network permission prompt didn’t show up on iOS have been fixed, and the iOS Widget now supports iOS 17 and above (previously only 18.5).
  • Asset Management: The behavior of sorting people has been reverted to be based on asset count as before. Other enhancements include bulk download functionality on mobile, an “undo delete” feature on the web, display of likes in the asset viewer, and the ability to change the primary asset of a stack.
  • EXIF Data & Album Assets: Previous issues with EXIF data synchronization and album asset exclusions in shared links have been resolved (general fix, applies to prior versions and benefits 1.135).

We are incredibly grateful to all the contributors who made this release possible. Their efforts are invaluable to the project’s continuous improvement.

We hope you enjoy the new features and performance enhancements in v1.135 on your PixelUnion Immich instance!
